HOLLER WOMEN

A celebration of the strange, the beautiful, and the fierce women of the Appalachian mountains.

A COLLABORATIVE STORY TELLING

Growing up in the hollers of Eastern Kentucky, I was reared by fierce women. Women who were practical, strong, smart, and constantly battling to overcome the challenges of living in a region that has been exploited and maligned for hundreds of years. Generations of women who overcame all sorts of odds to provide for themselves, their families, and their communities. It is my goal to tell as many of these stories as I can. But, in my true fashion, through the lens of Appalachian folklore.

My goal is to write a book that is inspired by folklore and personal tales of the magical, the weird, and the wonderful women of the Appalachian mountains. I am currently collecting recollections that I will turn into speculative fiction stories. My hope is to publish a collection of these stories as a book and showcase the inspirational stories here, on my website and social media, as a sort of new take of the oral traditions of our ancestors.

If you have a story about a granny woman, a wild woman, a mountain witch, a siren of the woods and would like to share it with me, send me a message below. I would love to find out more about our shared past and write a story about it.
